Liam Payne's girlfriend Cheryl's divorce from second husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini was finalised in seconds on Thursday (20Oct16).

The former Girls Aloud singer wed French restaurateur Jean-Bernard in July 2014 after a whirlwind romance, but their relationship came to an end last August (15).

On Thursday, neither Cheryl nor Jean-Bernard were present at the Central Family Court in London, England, as their split was made official.

A spokesperson for the singer said in a statement: "Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini have today obtained Decree Nisi in their divorce proceedings. No further comment will be made and they ask for their privacy to be respected."

According to reports, Cheryl and Jean-Bernard had already agreed the terms of their divorce, with the 33-year-old retaining the entirety of her estimated $(24 million) £20 million fortune. It has also been claimed Cheryl cited her former spouse's "unreasonable behaviour" as the basis for the divorce.

Now the divorce is finalised, Cheryl is free to move on with her relationship with 23-year-old One Direction heartthrob Liam. The pair went public with their romance last December (15), and are currently rumoured to be expecting a baby together.

"Cheryl is relieved she can finally move on with her life," a source told the Daily Mail Online. "She’s the happiest she’s been in a long time. Last year was a terrible year and she’s a completely different person now."

It's believed that Cheryl will now go only by her first name, dropping her former married name as soon as possible.

Cheryl's marriage to Jean-Bernard was her second - she was married to footballer Ashley Cole for four years until they divorced in 2010 amid claims of his infidelity.
