Mel C is sick of her comments about Little Mix being twisted.
The former Spice Girl spoke out recently about the British girl band’s overtly sexual image, telling Britain’s Sunday People newspaper she no longer lets her seven-year-old daughter Scarlet watch all their performances.
However she feels her words and sentiments have been misconstrued by the press.
“I am sick of the media accusing me of slamming @LittleMix I love them and will always support them,” Mel ranted on Twitter on Wednesday (26Oct16).
“The over sexualisation of children is not the fault of young women. Typical of the media trying to pitch us against each other.”
She again clarified her comments about Little Mix in Britain’s Metro newspaper on Wednesday, explaining she understands why the band, made up of Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson, wants to show off their enviable figures in sexy stage costumes.
“I am a huge fan of Little Mix, so is my daughter Scarlet. But I think in pop music and in society in general, hyper-sexualisation has got to an incredible level,” she sighed. “I’m not criticising Little Mix. I’ve been a young woman and girls want to look the way they want to look. But I am a mother, I have a responsibility to my daughter. It’s a difficult one.”
Fans have also spoken out about Little Mix’s new racier image, but the foursome aren’t letting the backlash get them down.
"It’s a bit double standards, you always see lads with their tops off and everyone congratulates them and woos them, and we get a bit of thigh out and it’s a bit of an issue!” Jade recently fumed.
