Alicia Keys relied heavily on a “voice recorder” for inspiration as The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete’s composer.

The songstress executive produced and created musical arrangements for the drama that stars Jennifer Hudson.

The movie directed by George Tillman Jr. is about two children who are left to their own devices after their respective mothers are taken into government custody.

Alicia found composing for The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete’s to be a particularly unique professional challenge.
"This [experience] was particular different because I was on the road,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

“I would send George ideas, themes, thoughts, literally from a voice recorder that I emailed to him. Actually, that was kind of raw and cool and because this film has that raw cool element to it, I think it gave us the potential to start our dialogue from that."

Alicia is currently promoting The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete at this year’s Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
