Simon Cowell never "craved" things he couldn't afford when he was younger.

The music mogul is rumoured to be worth around £300 million, but won't confirm or deny the figure. He is happy to discuss how things have changed during his lifetime though, claiming young people are much more materialistic nowadays.

"Well, first of all, be patient before you make any money and you have got to want to learn - I think that is absolutely key. The difference now compared to when I was growing up - designer things, travel, a phone - none of us had a clue. I never craved anything that I couldn't afford," he told Radio Times magazine.

The 53-year-old star's love of unusual beauty treatments is legendary and said to be one of the areas he really splashes out in. He has been rumoured to use placenta facials to keep wrinkles at bay and last year it was alleged he had taken to sleeping in an oxygen chamber to help his skin.

While he hasn't commented on those reports, Simon is happy to admit to a gruelling exercise regime, Botox injections and colonic irrigation.

"It's all true," he laughed. "I mean, not 500 push-ups [a day] but several hundred. I work out three or four times a week, I have Botox, take tons of vitamins and vitamin infusions - if you believe that these things work, you will feel better."
