R&B star Ne-Yo is struggling with sleep deprivation as his newborn son is always awake.

The So Sick hitmaker and his wife, Crystal Renay, welcomed their first child together, son Shaffer Chimere Smith, Jr., on 16 March (16), and Ne-Yo admits new fatherhood is everything he remembers it to be.

The singer, who also has two children from a previous relationship, reveals his baby boy, nicknamed Prince SJ, is a relatively quiet kid, but he doesn't like to sleep.

"I haven't slept in about 14 days," he told People.com as he enjoyed a night out on Wednesday (27Apr16) at the 33rd Annual ASCAP Pop Awards in Los Angeles. "I'm loving every minute of it."

"He's actually a really good baby," Ne-Yo continued. "He doesn't cry much, he just doesn't sleep at all. So if he's awake, I gotta be awake, so that's how that goes."

Proud dad Ne-Yo is also enjoying watching his son develop various facial expressions: "He does a lot of side-eyeing," the singer smiled. "Looking out of the corner of his eyes like, 'What are you doing?' He does a lot of that. No words or anything."

However, Prince SJ is already showing an interest in music, especially his father's.

"He responds to the more up-tempo stuff," Ne-Yo explained. "I got a pop baby, he likes the pop stuff."

Revealing the newborn's favourite song is dad's Pitbull collaboration Time of Our Lives, the 36-year-old added, "He likes the guitars, oddly enough. That's when he would move the most."

Meanwhile, Ne-Yo, real name Shaffer Chimere Smith, claims his wife has already bounced back from giving birth via emergency Caesarean section.

"She's doing fantastic. She's completely recovered," he shared. "She's loving being a mum and everything at home, but she's ready to get back out there and contribute."
