Yesterday on Beats 1, Martin Garrix was live in the studio with Zane talking about his new Beats 1 show STMPD Radio debuting this weekend.
On Martin's new Beats 1 show:
I can’t wait. I’ve been brainstorming with the team about what kind of feel we want for the show. We’re all super excited.
On STMPD Records:
STMPD Records is my new label. I want to use the platform to promote new artists and release music that i like and use my platform to push new artists into the bigger world.
i listen to all these different kind of genres i want it to be all genres
I want people to see a new STMPD Record and think ‘oh I wonder what kind of music it will be today.'
On lessons he's learned since he first started releasing music:
For me the number one thing is, release the music that you stand for and want to represent. When I’m in the studio I’ll just sit behind my desk and do whatever i feel like doing. Taking risks is one of the things I’ve learned. Try to be creative.
On pushing himself in the writing process:
That's the fun part. It’s challenging. You challenge yourself. If you had a successful song, and every time I play it live and see the crowd go crazy, I’ll get back to the studio and think, I want to see that again. If I have a new idea and make it a playable version I can test it out live, look at the response, take it back in the studio and continue work on it.
On work/tour balance:
We balance it out very well. January/February are two studio months where I’m creating new music. I love being in the studio, but I love it just as much being on tour. In the studio I'm brainstorming new ideas, creating new music, but I also love the feeling of when I have that song, and I take it to the festival with me and test it out live. Right now we’ve found a perfect balance between touring, recording, and quality time with family and friends.
Favorite places to play around the world:
I love south america in general because I did so many amazing shows there. I love India. i love the entire world. I just did two shows in India in November last year and they knew every word single of every song I played. Screamed along the lyrics.The energy, they were so thankful and appreciative that you’ve come to India and they feel like they’re part of the moment, and they are.
On what Martin is up to right now:
Right now I’m still in the studio a lot - I had three shows last weekend and now a full week in the studio in LA. Then a couple shows in Europe, starting my IBIZA residency, then I go to Norway, then it’s my mothers birthday and I'm going home to Amsterdam.
On collaborating with other artists:
I love collaborating with people. It’s basically another pair of ears in the studio. I have my new single coming up with Bebe Rexha called ’Name Of Love.' Really excited for that one. Probably going to be released in the next four weeks. I’ve been in the studio with a lot of interesting artists, a combination of people you wouldn't expect Martin Garrix to work with.
On playing new music on his Beats 1 show:
I’m definitely going to play a lot of new Martin Garrix music on the show.
