Q Magazine, the UK’s greatest music magazine, has hand-picked The Charlatans to be the first act to ever play at its Awards ceremony this year, in another milestone for the 26-year old industry event. The event will be held on 2 November at its brand new home at Camden’s Roundhouse and will be hosted by award-winning Absolute Radio presenter, Christian O’Connell.

One of the most cherished British acts of the last 30 years, The Charlatans will play an exclusive set at the Stubhub Q Awards this year, as the event welcomes music fans to join the party for the first time in its history. The band’s set will follow the awards ceremony itself, crowning a night full of musical celebration.

Armed with 17 Top 30 hits - including The Only One I Know, One to Another and North Country Boy – and three UK Number One albums, The Charlatans’ history is littered with triumphs. The band’s last album, 2015’s Modern Nature, hit the Top 10 and was widely acclaimed for its soulful warmth and hailed as their best album in years. No strangers to the live music circuit, the band has toured for fans constantly over the years. Around the release of Modern Nature, the band completed two sold out tours of the UK, played the prestigious opening slot at Glastonbury Festival and were awarded a Q Hero award at the 2014 Q Awards.

“Q Magazine has been there with us from the very beginning of our career and the support we’ve had from its readers has been amazing,” The Charlatans commented. “It’s great to see to the Awards finally being opened up to the fans – we’ll see you there at the Roundhouse on November 2.”

Back in July 2015, Q Magazine caught The Charlatans’ live performance at Manchester’s Hotel Football where the band was joined on stage by football legend and fan Gary Neville. “The enormity of their music and their story suddenly feels overwhelming,” wrote Q journalist Simon Goddard, reviewing the gig and affirming the band’s continued impact.

Phil Alexander, Editor in Chief of Q Magazine, added: “As well as the awards being 26 years old, it’s Q Magazine’s 30th birthday this year so we wanted a band that could help us celebrate in style. The Charlatans are the perfect band for that. They’ve seen off ‘Madchester’ and Britpop, and made music that’s stood the test of time. They’re loved by the Q team and our readers, and we’re thrilled that they’ve agreed to play on November 2 for what should be a very special evening.”

Absolute Radio presenter Christian O’Connell, who returns to host the proceedings at the Stubhub Q Awards for the third year running, said: “The Charlatans are one of the country’s finest bands, and Tim Burgess one of the best-haired front-men any of us have ever known. To have them performing at the Q Awards - one of the biggest nights in music - is set to be a performance to remember.”
