Superlative (and sadly) anachronistic storytelling abounds here with a fantastical head-trip down the gentrified alleys and oops of London’s Soho. A romantique Pepys-a-boo of what’s been lost in the chase for ‘progress’ as busyness has been swapped for business. From seedy to greedy, swanky to …
Soho: Once a den of iniquity riven with ‘Queen Bitches’ and foxy ‘Roxannes’ now an identikit haven of (dead in the) ground coffee and tasteless free-wifi delicatessens and snapped chat-chambers. Personae non artist.
Sonically echo-vocative of the aforementioned glamateur dramatists David Bowie and Roxy Music, this sextet also bring a hint of Jon (Mekons/Three Johns/Waco Brothers) Langford’s output in its rowdy bar-room art-rocking and strolling.
Vox-man Singleton’s diarised-dilaogue dérive marks him out as the millennial Samuel Johnson as he surveys our contemporary Cosmopolis (and its fluctuating states of de-chaos and craned-neck skylines) with the eyes and ears of the wizened and enlightened.
