Scott rockers Gun come forth with their 7th studio album named ‘Favourite Pleasures’. With the addition of new guitarist Tommy Gentry, it has given an elevation of the bands artistic talents. As well as, keeping in line with that same Gun sound that their fans have come to know and love, over the years the band has been about. A sound with an all-encompassing flavour of rock contemporary and classic, this LP has enough grit and girth to tickle your musical taste buds.

‘She knows’ starts the album off, and jumpstarts to a piece of work which is riddled with ear burrowing melodic riffs and a driving power, making you want to see what else the album has in store. Most of the tracks have an air of influence from other well-known bands in that genre both new and old, there’s a bit of Aerosmith in there, with elements of Primal Scream, The Black Keys and smidge of Kasabian. Title track ‘Favourite Pleasure’ (released previously this year) starts off with a 90’s dance bass beat sound before throwing you into a classic rock riff. Closely followed by lead singer Dante Gizzi caning his vocal chords, as the shouty rhythmic rhyming lyrics proceed. The lyrics tell of a questionable fetish fancy of a former friend of the band. The majority of the album has a very clear theme of upbeat hard rock anthems, however the final track is a much more soul baring, stripped back offering of ‘The Boy Who Fooled The World’ which tells a tale of lead man Gizzi’s tale of lost innocence and growing up.
Listening to the album as a whole, it is quite clearly a very catchy hard rock/ indie record. Having said that, there is a strong sense of dad-rock meets glam-rock about it. Perhaps this is because the band have been around long-enough to warrant an affluence of different influences. Being able to experience different trends and experiment with different sounds. Generally speaking, this is a get-up and go, fun, action packed rock album. Perfect for any rock fan, as Gun have blended genres tastefully. What makes the album unique is that last more poignant track leaving a sobering, savoury taste in your mouth.
