Music News caught up with Disciples to find out more...

Firstly how are you guys?

Yeah we’re good, just returned from Ibiza and it was crazy, we did the Radio 1 show in Ibiza at Mambo and Amnesia!

How did you guys meet and decide to work together as a trio? And why the name ‘Disciples’?

Okay, well Gavin and Nathan met in college and were in the same music class together. I then met Nathan a few years later after they both met, and I was actually making hip-hop and rap but I hit a brick wall. All three of us met up and decided why don’t we make House, we all had a love for it - so we went for it. The first records we made were ‘They Don’t Know’ and ‘Remedy’ and it was just like stars aligned.

We got the name Disciples funny enough from Nathan, who loves a photo and a selfie, and he took one in a shop one time and he said look at my two disciples behind me. We were like shut up whatever ha-ha, but then the name clicked and we thought it was cool and it’s worked! So that’s how we met and how we got the name.

You have worked with Calvin Harris on the single ‘How Deep is your Love’ and have supported him on a few UK Shows, how did you find this and how was the experience?

Yeah Calvin’s a G; he just knows what he’s doing when he’s making dance music, from funk to EDM. It was his first time doing deep house with us, and it came together so well and we made ‘How Deep is Your Love’. We actually had the record in 2013, and he jumped on board in late 2014, and he was like what’s going on with this record? And we said its not finished and the label don’t want to release it just yet. He said he will touch it up and made it a bit brighter and radio friendly, and it was good to go! It done all right ha-ha.

Do you have any other dream collaborations?

Dream collaboration for all three of us has to be Drake. I know he has had a collab with Black Coffee, and I know if all of us got in the studio it would be madness! Hopefully that can happen at some point!

Who are your main musical influences and name five records that have shaped your music.

Let me start with the records, one has got to be Noir & Haze – Around, Another one has to be Jamie Jones – Hungry for the Power! Any Michael Jackson song absolute classics choose any of them all greats and have helped shaped our music definitely. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg Nothing but a G thing’ has to be one. Fifth and final one has to be On My Mind Disciples, but also Circles one of our earlier tracks really shaped our sound and music! We all absolutely love it that one.

You are originally from SouthLondon, so the SW4 gig will be a kind of homecoming show for you. How does it feel to be coming back “Home”?

We have been there every year before, before we even started disciples we would go! We would go and look at the tents and think this is crazy so actually having our own tent there this year is phenomenal! We love working with Together and we have the Amnesia residency, so we know the boys who put on SW4 really well and it’s been a great connection! The lineups looking great Danny Howard, Erick Morillo, Shiba San, Eli & Fur, Sam Divine, Icarus, Riton and Chris Lorenzo vs. DJ Zinc! We cannot wait to have these all on board it’s a crazy lineup! Were looking forward to it and want it to be the best tent on the day and show people we can give them a good time. I know were all going to be on our A game. It’s more then a homecoming it’s a dream come true!

What is your favourite place to play in the world?

Has to be Ibiza, people just love the music! They don’t go to hear one song; they go for the music and hear whatever as long as its good music. Places like Ibiza appreciate the music, and you can DJ for hours straight and there’s a lot more freedom. I remember about three years ago we played a 5-hour set in Ibiza and it was just because people loved the music and we love the island for what it represents!

Where would you like to play in the future that you have yet to play?

It has to be Brazil. We’ve never played in Brazil. Our close friends Amnine Edge & Dance say its crazy and we really want to go! The women are crazy aswell apparently so were looking forward to that!

What are your upcoming plans, in terms of releases and gigs apart from SW4?

We’ve got V festival this weekend, were there every day so that’s going to be good. Then we are in Northern Ireland for Tennants festival that is going to be crazy! Then the day after that we are at the big one SW4, and also creamfields the same day! But getting into our own tent on that day will be the perfect way to finish the summer.

So coming to the end of summer, are there any releases in the pipeline?

End of September we have got the new single coming, we can’t tell you the name of it, looking forward to that release we have got some heat coming!
