MTV UK has announced the shortlist for MTV Brand New 2018. Selected by MTV officials, key music influencers and industry representatives, the shortlist includes the most exciting new UK music talent for 2018. In January, the acts will go head to head in a public vote on Instagram, battling it out until the all-conquering winner is revealed in the new year. More details to follow.

It’s really hard choosing the shortlist but it’s incredibly rewarding and exciting to work with talent at this stage of their career. We’re really looking forward to the public vote and supporting our finalists throughout the year!”
Last year AJ Tracey was crowned as MTV Brand New 2017 champion. The grime MC from West London started out his career on pirate radio stations like many artists before him, but really came to attention when he linked up with South London MC Dave, even earning himself a shout out from Drake. Since winning MTV Brand New 2017, the artist has released a new album called ‘Secure The Bag’ with one of his songs even featuring Craig David.
AJ Tracey said, “Big up MTV for making me last year’s MTV Brand New 2017 winner. My fans always ride for me and they really came through. MTV influenced me so much growing up, so it was a pretty big moment for me when I won this. Good luck to the nominees for 2018.”
Recent MTV Brand New campaigns have also revealed the biggest breakthrough acts such as; Anne-Marie, Ella Eyre, George Ezra, James Bay, Krept & Konan, Sam Smith, The Vamps and Years & Years.
With one of the most successful hit rates for a new music poll, over the last five years MTV Brand New has provided crucial early support helping to launch the careers of international stars such as Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. They have also helped garner attention for British music talent including Adele, Conor Maynard, Disclosure, Ellie Goulding, Florence + The Machine, Jessie J, Labrinth, Tinie Tempah and Wretch 32 at the very start of their recording careers.
