Dan Patlansky is one of the most honest Blues rockers around today.

A native of South Africa, he first came into view when his album ‘Dear Silence Thieves’ started to make waves on the world circuit and after playing a support set to Bruce Springsteen as a specially invited guest in Johannesburg. More recently he was nominated as Best International Solo Artist at the Planet Rock Radio ‘Rocks’ Awards.

2016's ‘Introvertigo’ followed on his theme of powerful Blues designed to be played live and this time around he has moved to produce himself at Scherzo Productions in his home town of Pretoria. The principle is, as the title suggests, that the search for per4fection kills the soul and heart of music – sometimes you need to accept mistakes when the track works.
To quote Patlansky himself “Perfection Killsis all about my vision of making a record that still makes the song writing a priority as in the past, the final product delivers a far more real and organic result.”

The end result is an album that really hits the spots that you want hit. His music is loaded with groove, heavy rhythms and killer guitar lines that get you dancing around the room from the opening notes of ‘Johnny’.
Tracks such as ‘Too Far Gone’ will make a great live statement from the heavily distorted guitar at the start and through the swirling Hammond that underpins the track. The monstrous drum line is something most bands could only wish for.

‘Junket Man’ is real radio friendly rock with all the huge soundscape he seems to be making his own.
Closer is ‘Dog Day’ which funks like a demon and probably features his best vocal on the album.

It is an album to be enjoyed for what it is – a rockfest, unashamedly loud and proud and well above the norm.

He will be touring in March and from seeing him previously I would have to say he is one not to miss
