Ariana Grande is terrified of catching Ebola, according to reports.
The 21-year-old singer had been scheduled to attend a non-profit charity’s annual gala in New York on Wednesday night. And while organisers blamed a “scheduling conflict” for her absence, sources have revealed that it’s her fear that she might contract the deadly virus which prevented her from attending.
Ariana’s concerns come after it was revealed New York doctor Craig Spencer had tested positive for Ebola.
A guest at the charity event, held to raise money for children in developing countries, told the New York Daily News:
“Everybody got there and was waiting for her to arrive and she was also supposed to be a surprise musical guest.
“No one was told she wasn’t coming, when I overheard organisers say she’s not coming, she doesn’t want to come. She’s afraid of flying because of Ebola.”
It is unclear what “scheduling conflict” could have caused Ariana to miss the event, as she made no indication of having other commitments on her Twitter and Instagram pages.
It was previously reported that Ariana had decided to cancel a scheduled trip to Spain because she is so scared that she might catch Ebola – a virus that has claimed the lives of 4,500 people to date.
“Ariana’s promo trip had to be cancelled – her team weren’t prepared to take any chances during the incubation period,” a source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper.
“Of course, some people might think it’s an over-reaction but everyone agreed it was the right decision. It’s nothing against her Spanish plans and she was conscious to make sure the visit was put back in the diary in the future.
“They ended up having to juggle all her plans at the last minute and reschedule the trip. Ariana headed to Paris instead and now won’t get round to visiting Spain until November at the earliest, if at all this year.”
