A competition has been launched which allows students to showcase the work of music teachers and the people who inspire them.

Bone Idol sets out to recognise individuals who inspire and give children the opportunity to play a musical instrument.

pBone, the world’s best-selling trombone, launched the Bone Idol competition in 2014. One of the key ambitions of pBone developers, Warwick Music Group, is to introduce brass to a wider range of young people and to encourage them to participate in music.

The Bone Idol campaign is about celebrating the work music teachers do: creating the musicians and music lovers of the future. Bone Idol allows students to showcase the efforts of their music teachers and the people who inspire them. Warwick Music Group received some brilliant stories from last year’s entrants, and have helped to raise awareness of the need for music education.

The competition will run throughout July on pBone’s Facebook and Twitter pages, where students can enter by stating who their music inspiration is and why. The lucky winner will receive a whole class educational workshop with a qualified workshop leader and 30 pBones.

The winner from last year was Laura Clough, from Raeburn Primary School in Bromborough, Wirral. Her teacher Scott Lloyd, had not only been going the extra mile to make his lessons and band fun – he had even been holding rehearsals in the school car park to due to renovations to the band room.

Jon Lenton, a teacher at Raeburn said: “We were thrilled when we found out that one of our students had won a pBone workshop for the school, after entering the competition on Facebook.”

“The children really enjoyed the workshop and staff were so impressed with the detail put in. We’ve already recommended pBone to other schools!”

Bone Idol aims to celebrate the work our music teachers do – as well as raising awareness to the benefits of music education.
