Bruno Mars still feels like a "thug" when he cries.

The super-cool singer might come across as calm and collected, but he's not immune to getting emotional.

And a video of the A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School dancing to his and Mark Ronson's Uptown Funk song proved too much for the 29-year-old.

"I cried at the end. Im still a thug though. Thank you to everyone involved in making this video (sic)," he congratulated the students and their dedicated teacher.

Uptown Funk was an instant smash hit, going to number one in countries including Australia, America and the UK.

It took ages to finish, with producer Mark admitting he and Bruno are both perfectionists.

"I know of course it has so much to do with Bruno," Mark previously told Associated Press.

"It's like even if the record was garbage, it's Bruno Mars, you're guaranteed a certain level of attention, right? I'm as proud of Uptown Funk... It's awesome, but at the same time it almost feels like it's happening to somebody else."

The catchy track has inspired countless videos, including a joke mash-up of US President Barack Obama looking like he's singing along. It clearly went down well with Mark, who thanked the creator of the spoof on Twitter.

And with all the attention on this new song, Bruno and Mark have become quite a cult duo.

"There was some MTV thing that [called us] 'Pop's new power couple.' I just wrote [Bruno] an email. I was like, 'Is it weird that I get a nice feeling when someone calls us a power couple? As if we're Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg or something. Do we need a name - like Brark Manson?'" Mark joked.
