Cream bassist and vocalist Jack Bruce has died at the age of 71.
The Scottish musician, best-known for his work with the popular 1960s psychedelic rock trio, passed away Saturday, his publicist confirmed to BBC News.
"He died today at his home in Suffolk surrounded by his family,” spokesperson Claire Singers said.
The cause of his death was not revealed.
However, the musician had battled liver cancer more than ten years ago, E! News reports.
Jack is survived by his wife, Margrit, five children and a granddaughter, according to the outlet.
His family confirmed news of his passing in the following statement: “It is with great sadness that we, Jack's family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father and granddad and all-round legend.
"The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts.”
Cream formed in 1966 with Eric Clapton on guitar and vocals and Ginger Baker on drums and with chart-topping hits like Sunshine of Your Love and I Feel Free written and sung by Jack.
The group eventually split in 1968 to pursue solo careers.
They reunited in 1993 to perform at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and in 2005 for a series of concerts in London.
Tributes flooded social media shortly after news of the musician’s passing was shared with the public.
"So sad to hear of Jack Bruce passing," E! reports Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler tweeted. "My biggest influence and favorite bass player. Thank you, Jack. RIP."
"Very sad to hear of the passing of Jack Bruce, a major influence in music and an amazing bass player and singer," the band’s guitarist Tony Iommi wrote.
