Hilary Duff found it “scary” to be back in the recording studio after a six year absence.
The 26-year-old singer has been working on her fifth studio album for quite some time and announced last week that her new EP will be released with RCA Records in the fall. Her latest release, Chasing the Sun, premiered on earlier this week.

“It’s scary to get back into the studio and I guess find my voice again,” the actress-turned-singer told HollywoodLife. “But it’s also exciting because I have so much more confidence this time around because I feel so much more confident as a person.
After taking such a big break and taking time to live my life, and go and find out who I am and what I’m into, and what kind of mother I am, what kind of wife I am.”
The Disney Channel star’s last studio album was 2007’s Dignity. Since then she has become a mother to two-year-old son Luca with estranged husband, hockey player Mike Comrie. And while her son has been her focus over the last couple of years, the Wake Up hit maker was ready to get back in the studio.
“I guess I felt like I had done everything I wanted to do, and I really missed that part of my life,” Hilary explained. “I missed being on stage and interacting with my fans the way that I used to. I was ready to share some of my experiences. I missed recording, I missed the whole creative process of making a record.”
The Metamorphosis singer added that she felt that now she had learned how to be a “great mom”, she could branch out and do things that were challenging for her, and that made her happy.
