Following their tenacious debut Glastonbury performance at Worthy Farm last Friday (8/10 – NME), Catfish and the Bottlemen have unveiled the full video of Ewan McGregor covering their brand new single ‘Hourglass’, which is out now on Island/Communion.
The footage was filmed for the single’s official video in which Ewan took the starring role, thanks to frontman Van McCann refusing to take no for an answer in his quest to meet his hero. After cutting the original lyric video to ‘Kathleen’ using Ewan Mcgregor film clips, he bombarded Ewan with tweets and even produced a ‘10 Reasons Why I Love Ewan McGregor’ video for Transmitter. Once the boys added Ewan’s face to their drum skin and toured with it, Ewan eventually relented and took them out for breakfast in New York, and has since seen them live, jammed with them, and now starred in their video.
“Honestly working with Sir Ewan was one of the funnest things I think I'll ever get to do. He's the most interesting and interested guy I've ever met.” Van says. “He's just fucking brilliant. Total gentleman! When people tell you not to meet the people you look up to, FUCK THATTTTTTTTT! He genuinely buzzes off the band. Sends me photos of him listening to us before he walks onstage on his endless run of sold out broadway. AND HE LIKES MY LYRICS! Honestly, I love him. It all makes me laugh my head off!”
2015 has seen Catfish and the Bottlemen burst on to the scene with debut album ‘The Balcony’ now Gold, shifting over 150,000 copies. The album has fostered a string of huge Radio 1, 6 Music and XFM playlisted singles: ‘Homesick’, ‘Kathleen’ and ‘Cocoon’. Following their latest sold out UK tour, which culminated in two epic shows at the Shepherds Bush Empire, the band have been touring the US non-stop where excitement is bubbling under. Tickets to their UK tour later this year, which includes two nights at Brixton’s O2 Academy, sold out in 10 minutes.
