The 9th edition of the International Spring Orchestra Festival taking place from the 7 to 11 April 2015 will be held under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta. For this year’s edition the founder and Artistic Director of the Festival, Karl Fiorini said that the concerts will all be for children 15 years and younger.

The 2015 Festival will open with a concert of two opulent masterpieces for Winds and Piano, on Tuesday 7 April, at the Teatru Manoel, to be performed by the Reigate Wind Quintet and Maltese-born pianist, Erik Azzopardi, UK. Mozart’s Eb Quintet for piano and winds K452, was described by the composer in a letter to his father Leopold as “…the best work I have ever written…”
Pianists Gisèle Grima and Erika Gialanzè will be teaming up on Wednesday 8 April at Palazzo Pereria for a four hand recital, interpreting music by Debussy, Satie, Stravinsky and Albert Pace.

On Thursday 9 April, at the Teatru Manoel, Soprano Brigitte Peyré will be enchanting us with her voluptuous and velvety tone of early 20th century Viennese masterpieces accompanied by the French conductor Raoul Lay and the Ensemble Télémaque. They shall be interpreting Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire and highlighting this composer’s orchestration mastery in the works of two of his most important contemporaries, Gustav Mahler’s Songs of a wayfarer and Ferruccio Busoni Nocturne.

As a treat to all piano lovers, on Friday 10 April, the International Spring Orchestra Festival has the pleasure to invite two of the finest French pianists, Roland Conil and Véronique Muzy for a two-piano recital. Soloists in their own right, they have drawn critical acclaim for their performances of late romantic and modern repertoire. They shall be performing Poulenc’s and Mozart’s two-piano sonatas as well as Debussy’s En blanc et noir.
The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Roberto Beltrán Zavala will bring the International Spring Orchestra Festival to a spectacular conclusion, on Saturday 11 April, with Karl Fiorini’s colourful first symphony and Rimsky-Korsakov’s most popular work and highly evocative Scheherazade suite, bringing the evening and the festival to a magnificent finale.

The rising stars concert series debuting young highly talented local musicians will be held daily at 12:30, Palazzo Pereira, opposite Casa Rocca Piccola, Republic Street Valletta and are free, open donation at the door.

This year’s edition of the International Spring Orchestra Festival is officially sponsored by Malta Enterprise, generously supported by the Ministry of Finance. This year’s edition will also include 2 days of free master classes for intermediate to advanced pianists by Roland Conil and Véronique Muzy, piano professors of the Conservatoire of Avignon, France and a school matinee concert by the Ensemble Télémaque on Thursday 9 April at the Manoel Theatre at 11am.
