Kelly Clarkson feels “considerably blessed”.
The singer’s life changed forever after she won the first season of American Idol in 2002. More than a decade on, she has platinum selling records, Grammy Awards and has become a wife and mother. Things couldn’t be sweeter for the 32-year-old but she isn’t letting it go to her head.
“I'm considerably blessed in my life. I came from nothing, and my life took a whirlwind change overnight," she told People magazine. "My life couldn't be any better. But you just pause and go, 'Why wouldn't you want to give back? Why wouldn't you want to help out when you have so much spotlight to share?' "
Kelly has combined her two passions, music and helping others, by getting involved with Musicians on Call, a non-profit organisation whose volunteers bring music to hospital patients. The Since You’ve Been Gone singer knows firsthand how much the medium can affect a person in a positive way.
“Music has such an influence on our emotions, and it aids in recovery. It's kind of a healthy little elixir for everyone," she explained. "And I can relate to it: I was very much an outsider as a kid, and music kind of saved me."
Kelly has been involved with the charity since 2012 and has performed a number of Christmas shows at a children’s hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. But it wasn’t the first time the star had decided to do that kind of a performance.
“I used to go to hospitals and just sing because I love kids, and I love singing," she admitted.
