Lenny Kravitz was struck by musical inspiration on The Hunger Games set.

The multitalented singer played stylist Cinna to Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen in the first two instalments of the franchise.

Now the 50-year-old is back to doing what he knows best with his latest album Strut, due for release later this month. He says the urge to record new tracks hit him while on set.

"I wasn't even planning on making an album. I was just working on the film. In the night, just all this music..." he revealed to British newspaper The Telegraph.

"[This music has] all the different dynamics that you would have from lust to sex to heartbreak to desperation to devotion to misunderstood love."

Lenny has been living in and out of Paris for nine years now, and the French city features in his latest music video. His love of the capital runs deep.

"I think it's a pretty sexy city, aesthetically it's gorgeous... the architecture, the design... it's very inspiring..." he gushed.

"I don't feel foreign anymore. Now when I come, I just feel like I'm going home, because I am!"

Strut is Lenny's first album since 2011's Black and White America and his tenth in total. He revealed a little behind the recording process.

"Every time I make an album, it's always different. This album just happened like this!" he said.

"I won't call it easy but the flow was very good. Everything just came into my head. I didn't even have to think about it.... I just let it come out."
