Pete Wentz has compared Fall Out Boy's second album to unprotected sex.
The American rock band was formed in 2011 and after a brief break from music they are back stronger than ever.
Recalling the band's second record, 2005's From Under the Cork Tree, Pete remembers none of them had a clue what they were doing.
"We really had no idea what we were doing at the time. We were kids. Making it was like unprotected sex on a one-night stand, having a kid, and then the kid just happening to run out really awesome," Pete laughed to British magazine Kerrang!
The Fall Out Boy line-up has never changed, with original members Pete, Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman, and Andy Hurley all still playing together.
However, their knowledge of the industry has altered massively. The group have produced six studio albums, with the latest record American Beauty/American Psycho topping the US charts earlier this year and making the top ten around the globe. But it was From Under the Cork Tree that really changed things.
"It was the first time we felt like we weren't really rushed into the studio. We were able to explore many more aspects of what we wanted to achieve as a band, bring in different influence. I absolutely inhabited that record - certain songs, anyway - and it was a time when me and Patrick really cemented out working relationship together.
"We didn't have a massive budget, and no-one from our label [Island recorders] was coming in and saying, 'This is going to be about!' but we felt the most comfortable we ever had," he smiled.
