Rick Ross gets excited when he watches Drake perform.

The 39-year-old rapper's 2006 debut album Port of Miami went straight to the top of the US Billboard 100.

The success of the record cemented his status as one of the hottest new talents on the block and now, eight years later, he owns record label Maybach Music Group. He loves seeing new talent and is a big supporter of Drake.

“That's what's great about [not being new in the business]. When I watch Wale and Drake and I watch Kendrick [Lamar], it's exciting. As fans of the culture, you really feel it,” Rick reasoned to the American edition of GQ.

Both Rick and Kendrick featured on Drake’s 2014 track What Are We Living For.

GQ has added Rick to its Legacy Project, honouring the top music makers who have made an impact on the entertainment industry. Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams and Nas also made the cut.

When asked to sum up his legacy, Rick had no problem finding the right words.

“The biggest boss that ever did it! Made it look so easy. So timeless. That's Rozay! Of course,” he enthused.

His last album, Hood Billionaire, was released in November and was met with mixed reviews.

Rick never lets negative comments set him back though and is a big believer in self promotion. He also doesn’t think there’s such a thing as overexposure.

“If you think someone's overpromoting themselves, you may not be a fan of what's going on. But if it's something you're a fan of, it's hard to say you get too much. [Or] can you overpromote Kanye [West]? It's hard for me to imagine that,” he mused.
