The controversial comedy The Interview is facing an even bigger problem than causing a war with North Korea. It is alleged to have breached copyright.
TorrentFreak.com is reporting that Sony Pictures failed to negotiate the licence to use the song ‘Pay Day’ by Yoon Mi Rae in the movie but used it anyway. Without clearing the song, the music of Yoon Mi Rae, the half Korean, half African America singer from Texas) Sony Pictures could be using the track illegally.
The copyright holder Feel Ghood Music released a statement saying, “There were initial discussions for using ‘Pay Day‘ in the movie, but at some point, the discussions ceased and we assumed that it would not follow through.
“However, after the movie was released, we learned that the track had been used without permission, legal procedure, or contracts.”
Feel Ghood Music is now preparing a lawsuit against Sony for copyright infringement.
“We will be taking legal action against Sony Pictures as well as DFSB, the agency that had been carrying out the discussion regarding the use of the track,” Feel Ghood Music claims.
Meanwhile, showbiz411.com reports that the version of Katy Perry ‘Firework’ is real the first time it is used but fake the second time. The slowed down version near the end of the movie when Kim Jung Un is taken out is by a Katy Perry impersonator named Jenny Lane.
The Interview opened on Christmas Day in limited release in the United States. It made $1 million on its first day of release.
