will.i.am thinks the music coming out lately is “so 2000s”.
The Black Eyed Peas frontman and famed producer has been making Grammy winning tunes of his own for over two decades now. And after witnessing this year’s American Music Awards, he expressed his displeasure with current trends.
“Nothing was like, ‘Oh my!’” he told Page Six of the annual awards ceremony.
His own partner in crime Fergie was one of the performers on the evening, alongside Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, Lorde, Iggy Azalea and One Direction. But Will is of the opinion that we’re so flooded with new technology that the music industry is suffering as a result.
“It’s like, I don’t know how you compete with ‘refresh,’” he explained. “Everyone is ‘refreshing’ their phones, and songs just always seem to be in the background. You’re competing with my thumb-flipping channels.”
The musician also noted he thinks the music being made today is outdated. According to him, acts are only lending from a previous decade.
“Everything around music right now is so 2000s, like 2003,” he lamented.
Will is not just focusing on music nowadays, however. He has multiple business ventures up in the air, including a fashion label. Former Zappos Couture artistic director André Leon Talley was recently recruited as fashion and style director for his firm, i.am+, according to website Fashion Week Daily.
His current project is said to be the development of a “fashion bracelet” that Will recently announced.
But when the music and art mogul isn’t working, he makes a point of acknowledging holidays like Thanksgiving. Taking to his Twitter account on Thursday, he made his sentiments repeatedly clear.
“Happy Thanksgiving happy Thanksgiving happy Thanksgiving happy happy Thanksgiving,” Will wrote.
