Johnny Marr, former member of the Smiths, has lost his license to drive over multiple speeding tickets.

The Mirror reports that the guitarist pleaded guilty (via his solicitor) to driving 72mph in a 40mph zone in South Manchester in April this year.

He avoided a six-month ban because the court had not had hearings for two subsequent speeding offences that have since accumulated enough demerit points on his license to have it suspended.

Instead, the magistrate imposed a ban of 56 days and a fine of $835.

His solicitor Gwyn Lewis said: “It was something he deeply regrets and it is the first time he has been banned from the roads.”

Marr is currently not associated with any band and is working on solo material. He plans to release two solo albums over the next year and continue on soundtrack work.
