Favourite hobby?: Spending Time with Family

Favourite book?: The Palace Diaries

Favourite TV show / Movie ?: Serendipity

Favourite holiday destination? Why?: Italy. It’s a serene place, where I could enjoy some good music, and delicious food. Without a doubt, it brings about positive memories, too many to recall.

Favourite Maltese Act of all time?: Ivan Grech

If you had to choose an International celebrity to coach vocally, who would that be and why? Jennifer Hudson, a woman with a lot of talent, who truly deserves more recognition for the work done.

What is a typical daily routine for Gillian?: Definitely not a trick question, knowing that I wake up to make coffee, prepare lunch for Beppe, and then head off to work. Any errands will be done during the week prior to lessons at La Voix Academy.

You have been experiencing several magical moments during the last few , years, but how did your life in music start?: My life has always been surrounded with music. When I turned four, my mother encouraged me to take up vocal lessons, and these led to a series of competitions and other showcases.

You are enjoying success both through younger and older talent. In your opinion is there a difference in standard between the different age groups?: Each age group is particular, because when dealing with children, one has to adapt to the possibility of voice change, but then again, the voice continues to mature well into adult life, hence the older talent has to be cared for with the utmost attention.

Together with Elton Zarb and Matthew ‘Muxu’ Mercieca, you have set up a formidable team. How did you all get together initially and what is the secret to your success as a team?: Firstly, success is achieved because this is not only a team, but also a family. I could not imagine any experience without the support of Elton and Muxu. I was the one who made the first move after noticing their talent. I am glad that they said ‘yes’, because they have not had the opportunity to say ‘no’ once since then.

Regarding Eurovision, have you already made plans for Amber’s preparation to represent Malta in Vienna 2015 ? Do you have any exclusive gossip for our readers? Unfortunately, I have nothing new to divulge at this point in time, except that we will do our best to see to a positive result.

What have been your top 3 most memorable moments to date? Without a doubt, I would have to start with the birth of my baby boy, Beppe. Then, I would have to point out at least 3 memorable moments in music, the victory of Gaia Cauchi in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the victory of Federica Falzon in “Ti Lascio Una Canzone” and the participation of Shauna Vassallo and Veronica Rotin in “Io Canto”. Each experience is uplifting and gives me the courage to continue.

A message to young people aspiring to be the next Gaia Cauchi / Federica Falzon?: Never give up on achieving your dreams, if you believe in yourself, there is nothing that will stand in the way.
