The winner of the UK version of The Voice each year can, within weeks of the series ending, walk up and down any High Street in Britain, and not be noticed. In America The Voice also battles against the higher profile American Idol. Now that Idol has come to an end, perhaps contestants on The Voice will get more of a chance. Kat Perkins reached the semi-finals last year and impressed coach Adam Levine with her rock vocals and has also established a good YouTube following.

Now the UK gets to hear the six month old debut Fearless, which captures her power pop/rock vocal in full force. The title track sees the kitchen sink thrown at it, with a full-on chorus surrounded by power vocals and big drums. It's the sort of big pop that US singers do better than anyone else. Elsewhere, we hear that Perkins has a keen ear for female rock of the 1980s, such as Pat Benatar (Paris (Ooh la la) or even the band Heart, who she covers with an impressive version of Barracuda.

This is accomplished stuff and with talented musicians around her, Perkins has the right company to make it. Whether the UK is ready to embrace her though is a different matter.
