Rosie and the Goldbug hail from the glistening Cornish coast, and first started making waves 7 years ago with their eponymous debut album. Not yet out of their teens, their colourful antics showed great promise, building up a cult fanbase and bagging several awed reviews along the way.

Yet there was a spanner in the works somewhere, and the band went into a long hibernation. Fortunately this year they've bounced back, returning with their new single 'Running In The Dark', new label, new band members and a whole lot of sass.

Bringing vibrant, glitzy electropop to the table, Rosie Vanier's vocals have a touch of the Kate Bush, if Kate Bush were a hugely outgoing extroverted party head. If you need a new jam for the summer, look no further!

We caught up with the band to find out what makes the Goldbugs tick:

MN: Your activity seems very much Cornwall based, but your shiny electropop style isn't the first thing that springs to mind when people mention Cornwall. Is that a fair comment? Do you find that the environment has an influence in your music?

RATG: I think your surroundings can have an influence on your music but mainly in built up areas where it's harder to get away from the noise, down here in Cornwall you have to make your own noise and crazy electro seems like the most obvious choice. We also have a lot of crazy friends who inspire us to write like we do. Cornwall knows how to party.

MN: Do you have any tour rituals, for example things you do or people you call before you play in a new place?

RATG: Our main tour ritual is finding the nearest park or green area so we can feel like we have a place to run to if all hell breaks loose.

MN: This is a new incarnation of Rosie and The Goldbug - How did you guys meet up and what's it like bringing the Goldbug back?

RATG: We (Rosie and Pixie) met our new drummer whilst trying out another drummer and he won the fight. Bringing the Goldbug back is like the first time you wear a new pair of socks, a familiar feeling but way better than the old ones.

MN: What can we expect from RATGB in the months ahead?

RATG:We have our brand new single out now 'Running in the Dark' a follow up single ready and waiting and a lot of gigs to keep us pumped.

MN: Sum up the sound of your EP 'Running in the Dark' in 3 words.

RATG:Dirty pretty synths

MN: Where do you find your inspiration? What's the songwriting process like for you?

RATG: We find inspiration from each other mainly and the addiction we have to making noise that makes people move. We write in a shed.

MN: Who are your idols?

RATG: Kate Bush, Kurt Cobain and Kris Kross.

MN: Is there anyone in particular you like to channel into your music?

RATG: Just us.

MN: What's been your best onstage moment so far, any particular favourite venues/gig?

RATG: Best onstage moment so far this year would have to be at the Masked Ball in Cornwall when Rosie climbed the stage scaffolding.

MN: If you could play anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

RATG: America

MN: The Goldbug is also the title of an Edgar Allen Poe story, are the two things related? Does the story have any particular significance for the band?

RATG: The name comes from the story but the story has no real significance.

MN: Finally, what music are you listening to at the moment?

RATG: We dig Future Islands at the moment and St Vincent.
