Take That, Charlie Puth

Apple Music Festival see a fantastic collection of artists all performing at the superbly fresh feeling Roundhouse in North London. These artists are performing for a selected group of people that have entered into a draw on Apples music portal iTunes. These lucky people were tonight treated to a set by Charlie Puth, the American born singer and songwriter who is best know for the 'Marvin Gaye' song that is everywhere. He was followed by the newly formed 3 some that go by the name Take That, the three boys are so well known that for me to introduce them would be utterly stupid.

Charlie Puth was the opener that had to combat poor sound levels, a wanting crowd and a set that was a quarter the size he needed. He opened up with the slick 'Some Kind og Love', which i loved but the crowd seemed less pleased with. 'I Wont Tell' softened them but it was slow and dry. 'One Call Away' is slop and not really amazing. He did put in some energy however and I felt the prior were not his fault but the set list of a young man about to be the future songster of choice. 'Marvin Gaye' proved that with a passion, he caught us and him in a spell and made me like the guy alot. 'How deep is your love' was miss placed and an attempt at being popular. He came back strong however with 'Suffer' and his swansong. A delight in 'See you again', blinded by that and the crowd of technicians we waited for those boys that has a TT in their name.

I have to be honest. I do remember the 90s and I remember the whole Take That drama. I had friend who were left devastated by the departure of Robbie and the eventual splitting up of the remaining foursome. I was a hard core dance music fan, who has seen the Prodigy more times than I care to remember and as such had no time for these pop princes. Well after last nights amazing set that has now changed. A dynamite selection was on offer and the event did not fail to entertain me or anyone else in that space. We started with 'Shine', the Morrisons song that worked so much that I was singing along. 'Greatest Day' was excellent and carried on the feel from the opener, 'Get Ready for it ' and 'Hold up a light' were slow to burn and I felt a little deflated but experience was about to pay off. Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen have been doing this long enough to know that the crowd needs to simmer, 'Patience' did this, 'Pray' underlined that but once we got passed a very upbeat 'Up All Night' and Mark on fine form it was going to be sublime. I sang 'Back for Good', 'The Flood' and 'These Days' (How I do not know but I guess the office radio has implanted them in my brain!) This point the set mix erupted and we had three belters that brought the house down! 'Relight my fire', 'Rule the world' and the master piece that is 'Never Forget!'
