With the punchy swagger and style of a young Fall Out Boy or All Time Low, Yorkshire quintet The Wilde have started making waves in the rock scene having supported the likes of Blitz Kids as well as radio play on Alex Baker’s Kerrang! show.

However, the band is about to step into new territory with the release of their colourful new EP – Young Libertine. While the overall premise of this release may seem on the simplistic side, each track on here oozes an even catchier chorus than the last, accompanied by hard-hitting guitar breakdowns and a fine vocal performance from frontman Tommy Fleming.

Opener ‘Until Next Time, It’s A One Time Thing’ immediately bursts into life and soon just begs for a live sing-a-long of “we’re never going to get this right”, one that will no doubt receive a welcoming response at the band’s shows. ‘Bad Bones’ follows and brings with it arguably the highlight of the EP. A well structured hard rock song perfectly executed through passionate performances and an excellent, anthemic chorus that proves big things are destined for The Wilde.

A similar pattern can be seen throughout the rest of Young Libertine; with ‘Youth In Bloom’ bringing in a popular You Me At Six influenced delivery, and the title-track closer reaching a climatic fast-paced finish leaving with it a taste of the future, and an epic finale to a solid release from a band already on track to hit the big leagues like many young rock bands before them.

Arguably the only downside to Young Libertine is the lack of diversity in each track, as you soon start to notice some similarities through the progression of this EP, with no alternative slower paced tracks or pure in-your-face rock. This instead offers a radio friendly and less hostile sound that has become popular in bands such as Mallory Knox of late.

The Wilde may not have re-written the holy bible of rock with this EP, but they are without doubt making a name for themselves with some solid and memorable moments on an EP that highlights the vibrance of a band that asks nothing of you but to have a good time.
