Only five months ago Paramore were playing a small show at London’s Garage for a lucky few, a world away from tonight’s scene, one of their biggest audiences in the capital. But even across two sold-out nights in Wembley, the intimacy of their special fan gig isn’t lost.

Because whether she’s belting out huge numbers such as Ignorance and Crushcrushcrush or snatching quiet spots for The Only Exception and In the Mourning, singer Hayley Williams’ performance devours the arena, making it seem as though she knows every single person out there.

Paramore clearly love their audience – Williams welcomes new fans to “the family” – and seem particularly attached to the UK, who have been a constant support for the band through their trials and triumphs.

The point is they are their audience. Never truer than when the singer picks an equally plucky individual from the crowd to join her in song. The two jump up and down with child-like excitement as the rest of the fans offer deafening screams.

Williams has been about as excitable from the get-go, though, combining infectious cheerleader spirit with an alternative persona – her deeply uncool dancing making her consistently cool, of course. No doubt every girl here wants to be her.

And when the night collapses under the weight of a jubilant Still Into You, while the place is showered in confetti, Paramore seem to have ticked every box for a show with arena-size clout without losing their familiarity.
