Following the release of his UK Number 1 album Europiana earlier this year, Jack Savoretti today announces ‘The Way You Said Goodbye’ as the latest single taken from the chart topping, critically acclaimed record.
Written with Jack’s long standing friend and pianist Shannon Harris, ‘The Way You Said Goodbye’ is a melancholic ode to the joy and freedom of travel. With Jack’s rasping vocals on the verge of cracking with raw emotion, paired with a soaring string section, the track explodes into life with an explosive, groove-laden chorus that’s become so synonymous on Jack’s latest record. The accompanying video is steeped in black and white, documenting the recording of the track at Abbey Road Studios.
Of the song, Jack explains, “My piano player Shannon Harris started playing this beautiful piano part that took me to a Parisian late night club and I could see smoke in the air and hear the clinking of glasses - it reminded me of the first time me and my wife did a trip together to Paris. We were young and trying to make it as unforgettable as possible. I wanted to write about that with a sense of strong melancholy. There’s a sadness to the song that I think was due to the fact that it felt like such a distant memory that we could live like that again. I want you to feel like you’ve been to the theatre after this song and that you’ve heard a tale of something that once was.”
‘Europiana’ is the follow-up to Jack’s breakthrough 2019 album ‘Singing to Strangers’, his third consecutive gold seller and first UK number one. While that album was recorded in Rome at Ennio Morricone’s studio, this new disc was conceived in between lockdowns at Jack’s Oxfordshire home.
As well as heading out on a 12 date UK tour in spring 2022, finishing up at London’s Eventim Apollo, Jack has also today announced special performances at the Hampton Court Palace Festival, and Sunderland’s Lamplight Festival. Tickets on sale for his tour now below.
