Sam Ryder's SPACE MAN continues it's exciting journey up the midweek Official Singles Chart post-Eurovision, breaking into the Top 5 and surging past its placement on yesterday's First Look.
Yesterday, our Official Chart First Look saw SPACE MAN set to break into the Top 10 at Number 8 - the last Eurovision entry to score a Top 10 on the Official Chart was Scooch's Flying The Flag (For You) in 2007 (!).
Following his second place finish at Saturday's Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Sam has the entire country behind him, and Official Charts Company data now sees SPACE MAN rocket up even further, smashing into the Top 5 and currently placing at Number 3. Keep track of Sam Ryder's Official Charts journey here.
This means that right now, Sam is potentially on the road to a UK Number 1 single - but first has to beat competition from rising singer-songwriter Cat Burns and dominant chart force Harry Styles.
SPACE MAN is already the most-downloaded song of the week in the UK so far, and it's current midweek chart position is yet to reflect a large proportion of post-Eurovision streams...which means that you could expect the song to rise further still overnight.
Just 340 chart sales separate Sam at Number 3 from Cat Burns and Go at Number 2. A Top 5 finish for the track seems assured, but if Sam does want to challenge for that Number 1 spot, he will have to sustain his current momentum...and needs the country behind him to do so!
If the UK does rally around Sam and nab him a consolation Official Chart victory this Friday, SPACE MAN would be the first Eurovision to hit Number 1 in the UK since Gina G's Ooh Ahh (Just A Little Bit) all the way back in 1996.
