Eurovision sensation Sam Ryder joined Ronan Keating and Harriet Scott on Magic Radio Breakfast this morning to discuss all things Eurovision, as well as his future plans, and hope for the number one spot this weekend.
Chatting with the presenters Sam revealed his favourite moment of the whole experience was seeing the excitement from the team as the song started to do well in the competition.
“Sitting next to the guys at the BBC on the sofa when they had been doing it for so long, travelling out with different artists over the years and they had always come home, not miserable because that is too strong a word, but sad and just like deflated. Sitting next to them and seeing how excited they were getting because they had never experienced, like the guy coming over to interview them, the camera appearing at the sofa because then you know ‘oh hang on we might get 12 points here’ and seeing how excited they were getting ... I was getting so choked up and stoked for them,” said the singer.
The UK’s entry to Eurovision also commented that the result was perfect to him. “I did not feel like we missed out. I think it was the perfect night because we got to be there and stand behind Ukraine and stand in solidarity and for me that is what Eurovision celebrates. It is that unity and togetherness… I would not trade going and performing another year and potentially having the opportunity to get to the number one spot for what we experienced that night.”
Ronan also quizzed the singer about the rumour that the Norwegian entry featured Ben Adams from the 90s boyband A1. “Yeah absolutely was,” said Sam “he is a legend, Ben. I saw Ben getting a croissant at the buffet tower and I was like ‘hang on what are you doing here’ … I am so intrigued by the whole story. I did not get a chance to ask him because I did not want to let onto him that I knew who he was. As I am chatting to this guy in a wolf mask and in my head, I know you’re Ben from A1 but I do not want to tell you I know.”
With regards to Spaceman reaching number one in the charts Sam is confident that they will be able to knock Harry Styles off the top spot saying, “when we do it because I have full faith, it will make history because the last time a UK Eurovision song got the number one spot was 26 years ago.”
