frYars is Ben Garrett, an 18 year old Londoner with a shed-load of talent and the vision and ambition to match. A haunting singer and inspired songwriter, frYars' music sets him miles apart from the teen-indie masses and their mundane social commentary. Live shows so far have been limited to intimate affairs around the piano for close friends, but now frYars is ready for his first public shows, with two dates scheduled at Clerkenwell's Slaughtered Lamb in November.
His debut release this September, 'The Ides EP', announced the arrival of a unique artist, with more - beautifully realised - ideas across its four tracks than most acts manage in an entire career. Expect a further single release next February, and look out for a Japanese only CD EP that has been leaking into the UK's more switched on record shops.
In his short career frYars has already been compared to artists as varied as Nick Cave, Daniel Johnston, Patrick Wolf, Brian Ferry, David Bowie and Lloyd Cole. If this leaves you perplexed as to what frYars actually sounds like then go and have a listen at his Myspace, or even better come down to one of the shows.
