Conil open first Spitz promotion
28 November 2007
Ahead of their New Year album release, London alt-rock four piece CONIL open the first ever Spitz promotion since the demise of the Spitalfields club earlier this year.
Thursday’s show at The Red Room in The Vibe Bar on Brick Lane E1– a few steps around the corner from the old Spitalfields location - continues the trademark Spitz mix of avant jazz, electronica, and underground music.
The very first gig launches a series of live music events for the Spitz and is headlined by ELMORE JUDD (Honestjons Records) with JOHN CRAMPTON, PARKBENCH and opened by CONIL.
In excess of 10,000 people signed the "Save the Spitz" petition over the summer, but the doors were closed for the last time at this legendary club.
But the Spitz spirit lives on in anyone fearing that live music might follow the bland path of the recorded music industry.
Spitz promotor Martin Wissenberg said: ‘This series of monthly gigs is so important for London’s live music. It will grow and grow in 2008, and we will be able to raise 2 fingers at the increasing gentrification-knickin-money-schtickin-champagne-guzzlin-culture-muzzlin-politickin-bullsh*t-hustlin of our collective musical soul here in east-London’.
