Dave Grohl plays drums on St. Vincent's new track, 'Broken Man', from her upcoming self-produced LP, 'All Born Screaming'.
The 41-year-old musician - whose real name is Annie Clark - recruited her friends, including Foo Fighters' Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Rachel Eckroth, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa, and David Ralicke, for her latest collection.
Clark told NME of the lead single and Grohl's gnarly drums: “From the beginning of the song, it’s a slow-burn. The shape of the song is climbing the mountain, because it just grows and grows. There are essentially three drummers on the track: the first part is my programming, the second part Mark Guiliana comes in, and then at the very end of the track – just when you think it can’t get any higher – Grohl comes in with this absolute reckless spirit and just takes it to the edge.”
Fans can expect her "most unfiltered" work to date.
Clark said in a statement: “There are some places, emotionally, that you can only get to by taking the long walk into the woods alone—to find out what your heart is really saying.
“It sounds real because it is real.”
Her seventh studio album is the follow-up to 2021's 'Daddy's Home', which was written after her father was released from prison, following his arrest in 2010, and it was heavily inspired by the records her dad used to listen to when she was a child.
'All Born Screaming' is released on April 26. Stream 'Broken Man' now on all streaming platforms.
