This morning on her BBC Radio 6 Music breakfast show, Lauren Laverne was joined by Little Simz, following the announcement that Little Simz will be performing on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this year.

Lauren Laverne: Simz, good morning, how are you?

Little Simz: Good morning Lauren, I’m all good, I’m all good. I’m buzzing.

Lauren: Me too, I’m so excited to see you on this bill. And of course you’ve got that history at Glastonbury. What does it mean to be part of it to you? What does the festival mean to you?

Little Simz: It’s amazing. I think my Glastonbury journey has just been so unique but, you know, the fact that they’ve supported me and kept bringing me back to do bigger stages, you know, different times and stuff, yeah it really is, it is special. I did say it, I put it out there that I think the last time I did Glasto, West Holts and I remember walking off and saying ‘I’ll see you next time on the Pyramid’ and it actually happened.

Lauren: I love it, love to see that dream actually happening. Your live shows – they’re so important to you and also so creative. This is a real opportunity that you embrace to just present your music in a different way, whether you’re doing the BRITS or whether you’re taking part in that extraordinary live show with SAULT at Drumsheds not long ago. I’m sure it’s too early to ask but what are you thinking, what are you feeling about this opportunity?

Little Simz: This is the only show I’m playing this year. All roads are leading for me to Glasto, so I’m really taking time to craft a show, to make it as much of an immersive experience as I can. Just bringing vibes to the farm really.

Lauren: I do notice of course that Michael Kiwanuka is on just before you and it strikes me that the two of you have a collaborator in common, in the form of Inflo. You’ve worked together before, you and Michael. Might there be collaborations? I’m sure you’ll be checking out his set?

Little Simz: Yeah 100%. I love Michael and I think he has such an amazing live show as well, so it’s just perfect that we’re both getting to do this at this time, this year.

Lauren: I love the idea that this is going to be your live show for this year. So that feels like for you a significant creative moment. What else is happening this year? Are you spending time in the studio or are you shooting? What’s going on?

Little Simz: Yeah I’ve been writing some lyrics. The pen’s been flowing for sure. So I’ll be coming to talk to you real soon Lauren about some other stuff.

Lauren: You keep your powder dry, you tell me when you’re ready but for now I am so, so thrilled to see you on the Glastonbury bill and even more delighted to have you on the phone. Congratulations.

Little Simz: Thank you so much.
