Mark Hoppus’ illness has forced the cancellation of Blink 182’s Mexico shows.
The band’s promoter announced simply: “Dear fans, sadly, Blink-182 shows on April 5 and 6 at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City have been cancelled due to illness.”
Bassist and co-lead vocalist for the rock band Hoppus confirmed that he is the one who has been taken ill, taking to Discord to explain to fans.
“For me and my illness, I have seen a doctor here and talked to my doctor back home. I am on multiple medications and have been in bed the past three days except to go to the show, and yesterday I was hoping it was just allergies… Saw docs, was told I had an acute infection in my throat and severe bronchitis.”
Hoppus stressed that the band doesn't take canceling lightly, and that they had had lengthy discussions around moving dates and trying to find other solutions, which ultimately proved fruitless.
“We appreciate your understanding and support,” Hoppus wrote.
In mid-2021, Hoppus revealed that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma, declaring months later on Instagram that he was “cancer free”.
Hoppus is the only member of Blink 182 to appear on every one of their albums. He is also part of the pop rock duo Simple Creatures with All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth.
