BTS star Jin has celebrated completing his mandatory military service.

The BTS member was discharged from the South Korean army on Wednesday after 18 months of mandatory service.

Jin, who is the eldest member of the K-pop group, is the first member of the band to be discharged from national service.

To mark the occasion, livestreams of the musician's military discharge were watched by thousands of fans on YouTube.

The 31-year-old was seen wearing his army uniform and appearing emotional as he hugged his colleagues at a military base in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province.

According to South Korean media, several members of BTS, including lead rapper RM, who are currently serving in the military, applied for leave to celebrate their bandmate's discharge. RM was spotted playing their song Dynamite on the saxophone as Jin left the base.

Jin was drafted into the military in December 2022 and served as an assistant drill instructor. The rest of the group, consisting of Jungkook, V, Jimin, Suga, RM and J-Hope, soon followed suit. The band is expected to reunite in 2025 once they have all completed their service.

Following his discharge, the K-pop star is set to perform and hug 1,000 lucky raffle winners in Seoul on Thursday as part of FESTA, which celebrates the group's 11th anniversary.
