Monica has credited Ariana Grande for bringing her closer to old-time collaborator Brandy by reuniting them for a single remix.

Brandy and Monica enjoyed huge international success in 1998 with their iconic duet, The Boy Is Mine - but rumours soon erupted that there was tension between the singers.

This year, Ariana released a single with the same title which she said was inspired by the late '90s classic - while a remix of the track was released last week with added vocals of both Brandy and Monica and added music references to the beats and style of the original.

Now Monica has said she and Brandy are talking more now than they have in the past 20 years after Ariana brought them back together.

She told Entertainment Weekly, "We recognised that the key was to keep other people out of our relationship, both business and personal, and let it be between she and I, and that has changed everything.

"It's changed the trajectory of it in its totality. My son was in the hospital the other day, and she was who I was speaking to while he was there, so I think that is what Ariana has done that she may not even realise."

The Angel of Mine singer added that she and Brandy are even considering making new music together following the reunion, explaining, "It's team The Boy Is Mine today, tomorrow, and for the last 25 years.

"We have a lot of catching up to do in the sense of giving the audience what they really wanted from us even back then. We didn't find a way to do it then, but we're finding a way to do it now."
