Madonna has reflected on her "miraculous recovery" a year after contracting a near-fatal bacterial infection.
The singer wrote an emotional post on Instagram celebrating how much her health has improved over the last year.
"A year ago today, I had just come home from the hospital after surviving a life threatening illness," she wrote on 4 July. "I could barely stand in my backyard holding one sparkler. I made a miraculous recovery and had an amazing year."
She continued, "Thank you God. Life is beautiful!"
Last June, Madonna's manager Guy Oseary revealed the Queen of Pop, 65, was in intensive care with a "serious bacterial infection."
He wrote, "Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care," he wrote. "A full recovery is expected."
The illness meant her Celebration World Tour was postponed until she was well enough to perform. During a show last December in New York, she told the crowd she has been in "an induced coma for 48 hours" earlier that year.
She added, "There are some very important people in the room tonight that were with me at the hospital. There's one very important woman who dragged me to the hospital I don't even remember; I passed out on my bathroom floor and woke up in the ICU. She saved my life."
