Tinashe has revealed that she always thinks about how she will dance to her songs as she writes them.
During an appearance on Variety's Behind the Song video series to discuss the success of her viral hit Nasty, the singer revealed that dancing is a big part of her songwriting process.
"When I go into the studio I'm always considering how I'm gonna dance to a song," Tinashe explained. "Because dance is so important to me as an artist and how I express my music and how it's gonna translate on stage."
"And I think that this song has a particular BPM, a particular cadence, a particular attitude that I always like to embody on stage," the 31-year-old added of the song, which was released in April.
The Player singer then noted that she feels the most like herself when she is performing on stage.
"I think on stage, I feel the most myself and the most confident and the most braggadocious," she told the camera. "So tapping into that kinda persona, that character, when thinking of the lyrics to the song was really helpful."
Tinashe first teased the song, which is the lead single from her upcoming seventh studio album Quantum Baby, on 14 February as a Valentine's Day treat for her fans, before officially releasing it two months later.
The track has since gone viral on TikTok.
