Hip hop sensation Ice Spice promises to end the year by ‘doing something risky’ that will give people ‘many things to say’ after debut album release
RB: “What can we expect – obviously the album is going to drop – what’s your plan for the rest of the year?”
IS: “Ooh, I want to take a vacation. I need to get my tan; I’m really losing my tan badly. Like, I want a vacation. And I don’t know, I kind of want to do something that is kind of crazy, but I don’t want to say what it is yet. I feel like people are going to have so many things to say, but I do it you guys will not miss it.”
RB: “Are you jumping out of a plane?”
IS: “No.”
SM: “What’s the realm?”
IS: “Probably as risky as that though.”
RB: “What?”
IS: “That’s all I can really say. But let’s see, let’s see though. I don’t know, I might change my mind, I’m very indecisive.”
RB: “Nah, do it, do it, do it. You’ve said it now, do it.”
IS: “Alright, I’m going to do it then.”
Ice Spice admits she has ‘good nerves’ ahead of putting out her debut Y2K
RB: “How do you feel about Y2K, and putting a body of work out – because obviously the hits have been really successful – do you get any nerves about putting the album out?”
IS: “I think naturally I’ll have like good nerves if anything. I feel like it’s a good thing to be a little nervous, because it means like you just care. I’m so eager to put out the album, I’m really excited. And my fans are really excited, so yeah, it’s like finally here. I’ve been working on it for like a year.”
SM: “You were born, Ice Spice, in the year 2000, so you really are a Y2K baby. What is your favourite thing about the noughties?”
IS: “I just learned about ‘the noughties!’ My favourite thing is definitely the fashion – I really love the fashion and just the whole like overall vibe. I miss flip phones. I never really had like a flip phone or whatever, but I wish I did.”
RB: “Alright, let’s talk more music. Now, you have dropped a new song – ‘Did it First’ with Central Cee – you’ve already got the collaboration with Pink Pantheress as well. What do you like about the UK collaborations?”
IS: “It’s just different. I love the accents and just the energy overall – I just love the UK and people from here, I don’t know.”
RB: “What’s the difference between working with Pink Pantheress and then working with Central Cee?”
RB: “Cent is definitely like super comfortable just recording in studio in front of like whoever. So, I’ve actually seen him record, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Pink Pantheress record.”
SM: “And then you and Cent at Wireless on stage, how was that for you?”
IS: “That was so fun! Oh my God, it was kind of a mess because we were just like running a little late. You know, London traffic is almost as bad as New York traffic. But we still made it work, we made it happen. You know, the set had to be cut a little short, but it was better than last year. Last year I was so late I only got to do like four songs. This year actually had some time, yeah.”
SM: “The crowd reaction, was that a surprise? Did you expect them to go so crazy, because they went mad when you came out?”
IS: “Yeah, I expected them to go crazy just because last year they went so crazy, and so I was just really looking forward to coming back here for Wireless specifically. Like, I just love Wireless in general. I feel like I’d do it whenever they ask.”
SM: “Ice, you touch on it in the song a little bit, are you a forgive and forget type of girl or are you a get your lick back type of girl?”
IS: “I probably going to get my lick back, I’m not going to lie. I’m forgiving too. One thing I’m not going to do is forget.”
RB: “But then it’s going to eat up at you if you don’t forget, you know. Forgiveness makes you free.”
IS: “I don’t think so.”
SM: “Get your lick back, get your revenge, and then be on your way.”
IS: “Yeah, I like the lick back better.”
RB: “Do you know what, when you came here last July, we were speaking about and Central linking up with your music and stuff. Was this the song that you were talking about?”
IS: “No, we just made this.”
RB: “Oh really?”
IS: “Yeah, this is way more recent… We’ve been working and talking about collabs for so long, but now we’re finally, like, it just makes sense now.”
