Taylor Swift has been left "completely in shock" over the attack in Southport.

On Monday, a 17-year-old male entered a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class and carried out a "ferocious" attack, killing two children and injuring nine more.

The pop superstar broke her silence over the deadly knife attack in a statement on her Instagram Stories on Tuesday.

"The horror of yesterday's attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I'm just completely in shock," she wrote. "The loss of life and innocence and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families."

Fans of the singer have launched a JustGiving page to help the families of those affected by the tragedy. They have already raised more than $54,000 (£42,000) for Alder Hey Children's Hospital, where many victims have been treated.

"We are working with Alder Hey Children's Hospital to help raise money for the families affected by the tragedy in Southport, and raising funeral funds for the two young swifties who have tragically passed," reads the fundraiser's description.

The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder and he remains in custody.

Swift brought her Eras Tour show to the U.K. in June. She will conclude the European leg in August by returning for five more shows at London's Wembley Stadium.
