Halsey has admitted she constantly worried about losing permission to sample Britney Spears's song Lucky in her new single.

The Without Me singer, who uses both she/her and they/them pronouns, got the pop star's blessing to interpolate her 2000 song Lucky on her new single of the same name.

However, they admitted on Capital Breakfast on Thursday that they were worried it would fall through every day until the track was released last week.

"I was like, 'How has this not been done before?! Is there a reason this hasn't been done before? Am I about to bark up a tree of disappointment where I fall in love with this song and then there's a reason it hasn't been done in a really big way?'" she began.

"I was really nervous. So when I got the blessing from Britney and Max Martin, who was involved in the original version of the song, having them on board... every single day of the process I was waiting for someone to be like, 'Just kidding, you don't get to do it anymore.' So everyday I was approaching the release I was like, 'This is really happening and they like it and we're talking about it.'"

While the Toxic singer gave her blessing for the music, she appeared to take issue with the music video over the weekend. In a post on X, she told her followers she felt "very upset" and "harassed, violated and bullied" by Halsey's "cruel" video. However, Britney later deleted the post and claimed she didn't write the message, declaring that she loved Halsey.

The Nightmare hitmaker replied, "And I love Britney!!!! I always have and always will... you were the first person who ever made me realise what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me everyday."

Lucky, which also samples Angel of Mine by Monica, is taken from Halsey's upcoming fifth album.
