Billy Ray Cyrus and ex-wife Firerose have finalised their divorce.

Their marriage was officially over on Monday, after less than 12 months together as husband and wife. Billy filed for divorce in May citing "irreconcilable differences."

Official paperwork, obtained by The New York Post, shows that Firerose, 37, walked away from the union with no money at all.

She "settled for nothing just to be done with (Cyrus) and get away from the situation," a source told the Daily Mail.

However, the singer has given her his claims to credits and royalties for songs the former couple wrote and published together.

After the news was made official, Billy released a statement through his lawyers, saying, "This has been absolutely the most crazy insane scam I have ever heard of. Let alone the fact I'm right in the centre and basically the target of the scheme. It's unfortunate it played out this way. Not only was it a web of lies that put me in physical danger, it was a matter of the heart. Love is blind, that's for sure."

When the Achy Breaky Heart singer filed for annulment earlier this year, he claimed his wife, whose real name is Johanna Hodges, misled him about who she really was. She then changed her surname from Hodges to Cyrus, something Billy claimed she only did to try and boost her music career. In turn, she claimed he left her after she told him she required a preventative double mastectomy.

Even though their divorce is now final, the couple are still exchanging barbs.

"If this went to trial, Firerose and her team would have provided a significant amount of evidence to prove he fabricated a narrative that would benefit his public image," an insider tells TMZ. "There is no doubt she would have been awarded the divorce, but it was much more important to her that this continuous smear campaign end, and the emotional turmoil stop so she can close the door on this chapter and recover from her surgery peacefully."
