Tinashe didn't know that her song Nasty would be "that big".

The singer-songwriter has reflected on the success of her 2024 track Nasty, which has gone viral on social media, particularly the line "match my freak".

In a recent interview with Elle, Tinashe was asked if she knew the track, which appears on her seventh studio album Quantum Baby, would be a hit.

"I mean, no, only because I really don't set those kinds of expectations for myself anymore," she replied. "I just try to create the best record and something that just feels good, and that was how that song came about."

However, the 31-year-old explained that she had a good feeling about the song, which she wrote during the festive holidays.

"I feel like every record that I make, or a lot of my records, I have that 'this feels like a hit' kind of mentality," she told the publication. "But I definitely didn't know it would be that big."

Tinashe then revealed how she came up with the line "match my freak".

"Honestly, it was a freestyle. So it wasn't even something that I was really thinking too much about," the Watch Me Work singer said. "I actually remember when I came up with that line, thinking to myself, like, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say this before. It was just one of those ideas."

Tinashe released Nasty in April and two months later, it became her first Billboard Hot 100 entry as a lead artist in a decade.

She dropped Quantum Baby earlier this month.
