Joe Jonas has reflected on his troubled debut solo music efforts as he prepares to unleash his second album.

The 35-year-old American singer has been in the spotlight since 2006 and has enjoyed huge success alongside his siblings Nick and Kevin with their band The Jonas Brothers.

But when he tried to strike out on his own in 2011, his debut album, Fastlife, only reached number 15 in the USA album charts - and number 99 in the UK.

His singles See No More and Just in Love, which featured Lil Wayne, also failed to set the charts ablaze - but he had further success after reforming with his brothers and as the lead singer of pop-dance act DNCE.

In October, he will release his long-awaited second solo album titled Music for People Who Believe in Love, but ahead of this, he has reflected on his 2011 efforts.

He told Billboard of his original solo singles and albums, "I have so much love for those songs - they actually aged pretty well! But it feels like a different person."

His new album is expected to be deeply personal - with fans anticipating lyrics that will touch on his highly publicised divorce from British actress Sophie Turner, 28.

He told the outlet, "I was going through a lot of life changes (over the past few years), finding out who I was as a person and father and friend, and living under the microscope of what the music industry can be. And I think, at such a crazy time in my life, I looked to music as an outlet."

Music for People Who Believe in Love is due for release on 18 October through Republic.
